Hirschbach is a refrigerated carrier holding both common and contract carrier authority. The primary market areas extend from the upper Midwest to and from the South, Southeast and Northeast.
During the mid-1930's, Ray Hirschbach founded Hirschbach with a single truck and the basic philosophy that providing specialized, economical, on-time truck transportation service would create success not only for his company, but also for his customers. Skeptics became believers as Hirschbach transported bananas to the upper Midwest from customers in the Gulf ports. His excellent delivery record and the care he gave each load greatly impressed his customers.
Hirschbach's reputation for personal service spread and the company's growth accelerated rapidly. Manufacturers and producers, who had once relied exclusively on rail transportation, recognized Hirschbach's uncommon ability to provide for their specialized needs and economical, on-time service.
That uncommon ability became the Hirschbach trademark and foundation, which continues to thrive today under the ownership of The Grojean Family. The company has been proudly owned by the Grojean's since the mid-90's.
Latest and Greatest
At Hirschbach, you will drive the newest equipment on the road. We feature a fleet of International ProStar+ and Freightliner Cascadia tractors. The majority of our trucks are 2012 and 2013 models with a few 2011's available.
Drive in Comfort
We want you to be as comfortable as possible while on the road. Hirschbach trucks are equipped with refrigerators, APUs, upgraded seats and interiors, XM-ready radios, and other convenient features such as dynamic cruise control that make your life as a driver a little bit less stressful. And we want your equipment to stay looking good. We have a monthly wash program that keeps your truck looking clean and new.
Take a look at our great equipment and see for yourself!
Hirschbach is serious about safety. We are working hard to ensure our fleet meets or
exceeds the requirements set out by the FMCSA's CSA 2010 safety standards program. For example,
in April 2012 the entire Hirschbach fleet converted to electronic logs. Use of electronic logging (e-
logs) eliminates the requirement for drivers to manually keep written logs and helps make sure our
drivers are fresh and well rested when on the road. Along with e-logs we use the latest technology
to monitor virtually all areas of driver and equipment performance to help keep the motoring public,
our drivers, equipment, and cargo safe. At Hirschbach our dedicated Safety Department staff and
everyone who works for us is focused on continually improving the way we do business with a keen
eye on safety. If you have a question about Hirschbach's ongoing program to improve all
areas of motor carrier safety please call Terry Leahy, VP of Safety 800-554-2969 ext. 2123 or email
In keeping with a goal of having the safest, most professional drivers on the road today Hirschbach
requires all new drivers to attend a two day orientation held at our corporate office in
East Dubuque, Illinois. This lively, intense session updates drivers on the latest safety information
and business practices they need to know to be a productive member of one of the top fleets in the
trucking industry. Incoming drivers have a choice of attending class starting on Monday or Wednesday.
As a courtesy to our new drivers we provide paid transportation to orientation, meals, and lodging
while the driver attends class. If you are interested in becoming a member of the Hirschbach driving
team please refer to the Careers tab on this site, speak with a recruiter at 866-780-9306 or email
Driver Incentive Programs
Hirschbach is proud of drivers who serve in our fleet. We offer several incentive programs to recognize and encourage our dedicated driving professionals. One of our incentive programs offers drivers who meet certain driving and performance standards to make up to an additional $1000 every quarter of the year and the amount and requirements are pro-rated. Pro-rated awards means a driver can start at any time during a given quarter of the year and still be eligible for a portion of the bonus. Drivers who provide safe, on-time deliveries and drive 30,000-32,000 miles quarterly can earn $500; 32,001-34,000 can earn $750; and 34,001 and above in a quarter can earn $1000.
A second award program recognizes drivers for their efforts in making sure their equipment and their own personal performance meets the strict standards required by state and federal law. Drivers and trucks are frequently inspected as they travel across the country and drivers who deficiency-free inspections are rewarded with extra pay for each clean inspection. A clean Level 1 inspection pays $100, a clean Level 2 inspection pays $75, and a clean Level 3 inspection pays $100.
Additionally, drivers with a history of deficiency free inspections are entered into a monthly raffle for $100.
At Hirschbach's drivers are special and to honor the vital work they do for us we recognize important milestones in their professional career. Drivers who achieve 250,000, 500,000, 1,000,000, 2,000,000, and 3,000,000 miles driven at our company are rewarded with entry into a special "club" set aside for each level of achievement. Industry wide drivers average about 125,000 miles a year and to reach the 3,000,000 miles driven mark takes at least 24 years. We are proud to say we've got more than one veteran driver who has achieved this lofty status.
"Best of The Best" Drivers
Perhaps the top honor bestowed on anyone at Hirschbach is when they are deemed "Best of the Best." Just like the name implies a driver who is named the "Best of the Best" at Hirschbach is at the pinnacle of their driving career. They have achieved a level of excellence that sets them head and shoulders above the majority of professional drivers. To achieve this heralded honor a select group of nominees is brought before a review panel who ultimately choose the winner or in some years multiple winners. The award recipients receive the exciting news at an annual driver recognition event. "Best of the Best" award recipients have a distinctive decal placed on their truck and receive distinguished apparel that tells the world they are one of the best drivers on the road today.
Hirschbach employs over 100 dedicated office, maintenance, and management personnel who make sure our drivers have the resources, credentials, and equipment they need to do the very best job possible. Shippers count on Hirschbach to get their freight where it needs to go safely and on time. The partnership between drivers and the people at Hirscbach who support them is critical to our success. Hirschbach recognizes employees for outstanding effort and for reaching longevity milestones with our company.
